Halfway through our stay, Lucas jetted off to Italy for <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Speak Teens<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, a week-long language and culture immersion program for Italian teens. He went with his worldschooling friends, and they were all buzzing with excitement (and a little nervous energy) as we moms dropped them off at the airport in Bucharest. Watching them head off together\u2014passports in hand and backpacks on<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2014was<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> such a proud moment. data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With the kids on their way to Italy, the moms seized the opportunity for a little weekend adventure of our own in Bucharest. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Let\u2019s <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">just<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> say&#8230; it was <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">memorable<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> from the moment we arrived at our accommodation.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The apartment itself was clean and spacious, but the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">surroundings were<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> sketchy. There were gentleman\u2019s clubs everywhere, and the used condoms in the stairway were an&#8230; <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">unwelcome surprise<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On top of that<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the fridge <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">made<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a strange phantom humming sound at random intervals.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> It was a good time data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">we ate<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> some truly amazing meals.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> One highlight was exploring the beautiful C\u0103rture\u0219ti Carusel bookstore, a dreamy multi-story space filled with books, art, and cozy nooks<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. We came upon a rally for Ukraine prisoner&#8217;s of war. It was a peaceful protest. We first tried to see it on Friday night, but a massive thunderstorm rolled in and completely derailed those plans.
