One of the questions we get asked a lot on our worldschooling journey is some variation of: \u201cBut\u2026aren\u2019t they teenagers?\u201d<\/div>\n

There\u2019s an expectation baked into that question \u2014 that teenagers are supposed to hate their parents, slam doors, withdraw, and rebel at every turn. And honestly, that stereotype couldn\u2019t be further from our reality.<\/div>\n

Our teens are not perfect, but neither are we. Despite not being perfect, we have built something together that feels grounded, honest, and deeply connected. Worldschooling has played a huge role in that.<\/div>\n

A Seat at the Table<\/h3>\n
One of the biggest shifts happens when kids aren\u2019t treated like passengers in their own lives. We give our teens space to be themselves and a seat at the table \u2014 sometimes literally, always figuratively. Their voices matter. Their ideas matter. Their feelings matter.<\/div>\n
And because of that mutual respect, something surprising (and wonderful) happens: they respect us back.<\/div>\n
They hug us every day. They tell us they love us. We do the same. It\u2019s not forced, it\u2019s not performative \u2014 it\u2019s just who we are as a family (and I am not even a hugger!).<\/div>\n

Growing Pains in a Safe Space<\/h3>\n
Do they test boundaries? Of course. They\u2019re growing. Stretching. Figuring out who they are.<\/div>\n
But the testing isn\u2019t rebellion \u2014 it\u2019s evolution. And it happens in a safe, supported space where curiosity and communication come before punishment or frustration.<\/div>\n

We talk. A lot. Heart-to-heart conversations about life, choices, fears, dreams, mistakes \u2014 sometimes at the dinner table, sometimes on long travel days, sometimes at midnight when someone can\u2019t sleep.<\/div>\n

We play games together. We watch shows and movies together. We laugh, we debate, we learn. We\u2019re genuinely part of each other\u2019s daily lives in a way that many families don\u2019t get the chance to be.<\/div>\n
