Lima is a culinary delight. Food was a highlight during our seven days in Lima. We spent one of our days in Lima on a food tour of Miraflores with our guide, Ignacio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our food tour started by exploring Mercado N\u00ba 1 de Surquillo. It is a large local market in the northern part of Miraflores. We tried fresh juice and fruits that we never tried before. We also ate papa a la huanca\u00edna, a delicious local dish made of yellow potatoes, vegetables, and a hard-boiled egg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our way to our next stop, we learned that the people on the street exchanging dollars for Soles give you a better exchange rate than the banks. We exchanged some money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we ventured into the center of Miraflores to eat churros at Manolo. We tried each flavor (chocolate, vanilla, plain, and dulce de leche). Ignacio pointed out many other nice restaurants along the way. Seven days is not enough time to explore the restaurants of Lima. We tried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Churros, we stopped into a chocolate museum to learn how chocolate is made and try free samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our stop at Cervecer\u00eda de Valley Segardo (Brewery of the Sacred Valley) was a success. The kids ate pizza and mini burgers while we had a beer and a local dish- Choclo Con Queso (corn with cheese).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last stop on our tour was a ceviche restaurant called Barros Mar. it has incredible ceviche dishes, including leche de trigre (a dish made with the juice of ceviche). We also munched on canchita (roasted corn nuts) and drank chicha morada (a non-alcoholic corn drink made using purple corn (or corn culli).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took the scenic route along the ocean back to our Airbnb to try and walk off some of the food. It was a lovely hour-long walk that helped get the kids\u2019 energy out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
