Saying Goodbye to Nicaragua

We arrived in Nicaragua at the end of February. We had a flight booked to go to Mexico at the end of March. Six months later we are now saying goodbye to Nicaragua. It is bittersweet to be leaving this beautiful country, but we are excited to start a new adventure.

We are flying back to the United States for a bit. We are going to see family and take a road trip to explore the many places we have not seen in the U.S. We are hopeful that the world will open back up early next year so we can continue our travel journey abroad.

These past six months have been great. It is not what we planned, but we are happy we got “stuck” here for a while. We like the pace of San Juan Del Sur. The scenery is breathtaking and the people are friendly. We spend so much time outdoors and it has been good for our souls.

There is so much we love about Nicaragua. You can check out our older posts about our adventures here. These are a few of the things we will miss most about Nicaragua:

The Scenery

Our view for the last several months has been a million-dollar view. Waking up every day to the view of the ocean does wonders for our mental health. Sitting on the porch around 5:30 every night to watch the sun go down is one of our favorite rituals. San Juan Del Sure has beautiful sunsets. We are sad to be leaving this:

The Beaches

We have never lived at the beach before. It has been amazing. The beaches in Nicaragua are not heavily developed. They are pristine and not crowded. It is hard for us to imagine going back to Myrtle Beach or Destin and enjoying as much as we enjoy the beaches in Nicaragua.

The slower pace of life

There are no traffic signals in San Juan Del Sur. You can walk from one side of town to the other in 10 minutes. The businesses are local. There are no big-box retail chains. The city runs on Nica time. People stop to talk to each other. If you need directions there are so many people willing to take the time to help. People do not yell or get frustrated if a line moves slowly. When people go out to eat they sit and enjoy the company long after they finish eating. We enjoy our days instead of stressing about rushing from one activity to the next.

Nicaragua is a place we would come back to someday. We are just not ready yet to settle down. Stay tuned for our next adventures.
