We officially wrapped up our first week in Zlatibor, and it’s been a mix of cozy, adventurous, and a little bit chaotic—in the best way.
We’re staying in a cozy Airbnb tucked in the hills with our two fellow travel families, the Sigstons and Blackbourns. The house is comfortable, and the real gem is the outdoor sports court. It has a basketball hoop, but we’ve also managed to turn it into a makeshift pickleball court, which makes Michael and Lucas happy. Of course, not everything is seamless—WiFi has been a bit of a pain, and we have had to pick up a few extra household items to make the space work for our group. But overall, we are settling in nicely.
Zlatibor itself is a small town, but it has a lot of character. We are still figuring out the grocery store puzzle—some stores are better for produce, while others have more pantry staples—but we are learning. The pace of the town is slow and relaxed, and the surrounding mountains are nice to look at.
A group ventured out to ride the world’s longest panoramic gondola (9 km long), which produces breathtaking views of the mountains and the lake. There is not much at the top. Just hiking trails and a couple of over-priced coffee shops, but the views are worth it.
The dads have already gone out to play pool, and poker games are a regular thing. Lucas and the teens have been getting out to explore the area and try local restaurants for lunch. Meanwhile, calisthenics is going strong, and Lucas is fitting in some runs during the week. The kids have done some fruit art, and we are into dragons and K-pop Demon Hunters this month.
We had a few days where the temperatures got up into the 90s. We broke out a sprinkler to cool the kids down. And we have dogs. Cookie came around first and then her friends. They hang around the house and walk with us around town. They look well cared for and are never really hungry, so its just social visits during the day.
And a fun bonus: our friends the Cleverley’s are just down the street, which has made everything more fun.
Zlatibor is off to a great start, and we are excited to see what the next few weeks bring.
