Our First Week in Cyprus: Sunshine, Swimming & Speakeasies

After six years of traveling the world as a family, we’ve landed in Cyprus for a three-month stay—our second longest stop since our COVID stay in Nicaragua. This time, we’re doing it a little differently. We’ve teamed up with two of our favorite travel families and are sharing two villas in a quiet complex with a pool—perfect for the late summer heat. And yes, it is still hot enough to swim. Henry can confirm: he’s been in the water nearly every day!
It’s been a full week already, and the rhythm of our Cyprus stay is starting to take shape. With more time here than in many of our past destinations, we’ve leaned into activities and routine. Lucas and Henry have started a tennis clinic that runs several times a week—something they’re both excited about. Henry has also jumped into sailing lessons, while Lucas and Michael go to golf, ping pong and padel.
One of the week’s highlights was celebrating our friend Jake’s 18th birthday. True to travel family style, we marked the milestone with a creative twist: a recreated speakeasy, complete with secret entrance and moody vibes. It was a memorable night and a great reminder of how special it is to be traveling with friends who feel like family.
Cyprus itself has been a welcome change of pace—especially coming from the quiet simplicity of Zlatibor. Here, we’re surrounded by modern comforts: big grocery stores, tons of restaurants (yes, even fast food chains with vegan options!), and no shortage of things to do. We rented a minivan to help us see it all.  We are gearing up for a much busier season.
As we settle in, we’re looking forward to exploring more of the island, from its beaches and ruins to the local food and markets. But for now, we’re soaking up this first week of sunshine, swim time, and schedule building.
More soon from Cyprus!
