We said good by to Zlatibor after two months. We hopped on a bus and traveled to Belgrade a couple of days before our flight. Belgrade, the vibrant capital of Serbia, welcomed us with open arms during our short two-day stopover on the way from Zlatibor to our next adventure. Even in just 48 hours, we managed to soak in the city’s energy, history, and charm.

We spent our days walking around the bustling streets, taking in the mix of modern architecture and historic buildings, and exploring the old town.
Getting around the city was easy and fun thanks to Belgrade’s free public transportation in certain zones. It was a breeze hopping on buses and trams, letting us see more of the city without worrying about tickets or schedules. One highlight was visiting the Belgrade Fortress, which has stood for centuries overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. The fortress has been the site of numerous battles throughout history, from Roman times to the Ottoman Empire and beyond, giving us a fascinating glimpse into Belgrade’s strategic importance through the ages. We enjoyed the views from the ramparts—an amazing spot to sit and look out over the rivers.
A must-visit for us was the Nikola Tesla Museum, where we got to dive into the life and inventions of one of the world’s greatest minds. From his early experiments with electricity to his visionary ideas about wireless power, the museum offered an inspiring and interactive experience that fascinated both kids and adults alike. An interesting fact is that it is also a memorial because his ashes are kept there.
Even more special was meeting up with our friends Mo and Erica, fellow world travelers, whom we last saw in Thailand. It’s always a joy to reconnect with friends on the road, swapping stories and exploring a new city together.

Though our time in Belgrade was brief, it gave us a taste of its unique blend of history, culture, and modern life. We left with memories of charming streets, historic sights, electrifying exhibits, and the laughter of friends—reminding us that sometimes the best adventures happen in the short stops between destinations.
