Our last full week in Bulgaria was a busy one. We attended the family dinner this week at Victoria Restaurant. The restaurant is one of our favorites. They have pizza, pasta, and traditional Bulgarian food like most of the restaurants in Bansko, but they also have sushi, which is Lucas’ favorite.
Michael organized another roundtable. This one was about education, which is a hot topic for worldschoolers. It is helpful to talk with other parents taking their children on an alternative path. I celebrated international Women’s Day with other amazing worldschooling moms. We also went out for our last parent’s night out. Having a community is important.
Henry woke up at 5 am with an earache on Tuesday morning. I gave him pain medicine so he could go back to sleep until the doctor opened at 8 am. We drove two minutes to the doctor’s. We walked right in and immediately saw the doctor. There was no receptionist. Within 3 minutes, she diagnosed Henry with an ear infection and prescribed antibiotics and pain medicine. I also told her about my weeks-long sinus problem, and she wrote me a prescription. The visit cost $15. After the doctor, we drove 30 seconds to the pharmacy and got medicine for $20. It was so easy!
Lucas and Henry did a ropes course on Tuesday. Lucas stood on his tippy toes to be able to do the adult ropes course. He said it was scary but fun.
The highlight of the week was sledding (or sledging as they call it in Europe) down the ski road. Michael, Lucas, and Henry felt the need for speed. Sledding down the ski road is technically not allowed, but nobody stops the group.
Lucas, Henry, and Michael skied. The mountain got a little snow while we were in North Macedonia over the weekend, but the snow has been disappointing this season.
Lucas and Henry also learned to snowboard this week. Henry tried first. He hired his friend Mathias to teach him and negotiated to pay 2 Bulgarian Lev/hour (about $1). Lucas wanted to try it out too, so Lucas and Henry went up the mountain to practice.
