Michael loves fire. At our place in Montana, there is a fire pit next to the lake. It is the perfect place to relax. There is a field for the boys to run around and play catch. Michael did not want to have to buy firewood at the grocery store each time we had a fire because it is expensive. It is about $10 for 8 pieces or $1.25 per piece of wood.
Michael called around and had a cord of wood delivered to our house for $165. A cord of wood is about 600-800 pieces of wood or about $0.24 per piece of wood. Michael got such a great deal on the cord of wood because it was not chopped. The man that delivered the wood was nice enough to let us borrow his ax. After watching a few YouTube videos for safety tips, we were ready to chop!
When we first started it seemed like a daunting task, but we slowly got into a rhythm. There is something about working with your hands that is relaxing. It helped us clear our heads after sitting all day at the computer working. Henry wanted to help chop, but the ax was too heavy for him. He helped move the wood.
We knew there was no way we could burn a cord of wood in 6 weeks, even if we had a bonfire every night, so Michael sold half of the wood after he chopped it. All in all, we got half a cord of wood for $75. We love sitting around the fire by the lake, taking in the scenery. Chopping and moving the wood was fun too.
