More Fun Exploring Glacier National Park and a Family Visit.

There is so much to see in Glacier National Park that we had to go back a couple more times. Michael and I went with our new friend Tonja while our boys were at bushcraft and hiked John’s Lake Loop. It is an easy 1.8-mile loop that takes you to Johns Lake, Sacred Dancing Cascade, and McDonald Falls. It was nice to hike without kids.

We saw these guys right when we started our hike.
Glacier is full of interesting trees, plants and wildlife
I am pretty sure Michael was just joking.

Glacier has a ticket system this summer. We were not able to get tickets right away, but that didn’t stop us from going with Michael’s sister and her family. Tickets are only required for entry from 6 am to 5 pm. It does not get dark in Montana until about 10 pm.

We went on the Thursday of Memorial Day week. We arrived at 5:30 pm. We went to Lake McDonald Lodge to eat a picnic dinner before heading out to hike. As we were sitting down at a picnic table, a man came up and told us there was a bear in the woods next to us. Sure enough, there was a brown bear. The kids started running towards the woods to see the bear. We wrangled them in quickly. We only saw the bear briefly. It was walking in the opposite direction. It was still exciting to see.

We liked the John’s Lake Loop hike so much that we did it again with Michael’s sister and her family.

It was fun having family visit.

Evening is a great time to see deer. We saw over a dozen.

We were lucky to have good weather while Michael’s sister and family were visiting. The week before they came it was in the 40s and 50s and raining. While they were here it was in the 70s and 80s and sunny. It made for perfect weather to get out side and explore Whitefish and Glacier.

We were able to borrow kayaks for the week. The kids loved taking the kayaks out. We also enjoyed the fire pit and heated swimming pool.

The kids did a 5-mile hike earlier in the day and still had energy to kayak.
Melissa and Judy snuck away for a mom’s kayak trip.
The perfect s’more

We enjoy our nomadic lifestyle, but we also miss our family. We love that Michael’s sister and family made the trip out to Whitefish to visit us. The cousins had a blast. We look forward to seeing them again two more times this summer.
