Tamarindo is a melting pot. The owner of our hostel told us that it is a city built by immigrants. He is Argentinian. The restaurants reflect the diversity of the city. We enjoyed poke, Mediterranean food, vegan burritos. Henry even got a hamburger he liked (he had not found one yet since we arrived in Costa Rica).
We went out and explored the city and we hung out on the beach. We opted not to do any excursions. We cooked a lot in the communal kitchen. It was a relaxed week.
Our hostel has a pool that the kids love. Lucas and Henry played with the owner’s kids. Michael played pickleball with the owner. Judy took her first aerial yoga class with the owner’s wife.
The hostel had a gym that we could use when classes were not being held. Judy was able to get in a couple of workouts. Lucas and Henry also created a workout they did daily that involved pushups, burpees, sit-ups, and Tarzan swinging on a TRX strap.
The boys and Judy got through the last few hundred pages of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Then we had a movie marathon watching the third and fourth movies.
We took advantage of the faster internet to download, upload, stream, and call family. Going from 4mbps to an average of 20mbps is significant.
On our second to last day, we took a 30-second boat ride (croc-infested waters) across to Las Baulas park and hung out at the beach for the morning. We practically had the beach to ourselves. The boys searched for seashells and we watched busy crabs going about their day.
We enjoyed our time in Tamarindo. Friendly people, good food and beautiful beaches. We would go back.
