Traveling is fun and exciting, but when it is your lifestyle, sometimes you need a vacation. We chose to take a break for a week in Phuket. We booked a resort hotel on the beach in Kamala Bay with our friends, the McDougalls. We were exhausted after our 10-day worldschooling eco-retreat in Krabi, Thailand.
We stayed at the Sunwing Kamala Beach Family Resort (https://www.sunwingkamala.com/). It is just steps from the ocean. There are several pools, waterslides, a kids’ club, fitness classes, a gym, a buffet breakfast, a swim-up bar, and massage services. It is a one-stop shop for family fun and relaxation.
I celebrated my birthday at the resort. I took a page out of my friend Vicki’s playbook and took a sunrise swim in the ocean. I went to yoga class and lay in bed while reading my book. Michael and I got massages and went to a night market for dinner.
It was a treat to lounge around the resort with no set plans. Having a gym was nice for me. I got up every morning and took advantage of having weights and doing jump squats without waking up my family or neighbors. We enjoyed hanging out on the beach and watching the sunsets.
There are several restaurants just outside of the resort. It is hard to stomach the expensive food prices at the hotel when there are more delicious meals waiting for us nearby at a fraction of the cost.
We ventured out of the vicinity of the hotel on Wednesday to go to Blue Tree Water Park. Blue Tree houses Thailand’s largest Crystal Lagoon and Thailand’s longest Superfly. The Superfly is a water jump that shoots you high into the air. Lucas, Henry, Austin, and Aiden did it at least 50 times. Michael and I did it twice. The park also has cliff jumping, waterslides, paddleboarding, water scooters, a skate park, a ninja warrior course, Muay Thai classes, restaurants, and more. We were at the park from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
We did not explore much of Phuket on this trip, but if we tried to see it all, we would be exhausted and broke. We had a rejuvenating week relaxing at the pool and the ocean. Our batteries are recharged for more adventure.
