The Ups and Downs of Krabi

Our experience in Krabi is much like our experience in Panglao, Philippines – there are days when it is amazing and days when it is not.

We had surprises when we arrived at our accommodation in Krabi. We found out that the person who organized housing for the group was not upfront about many things. The two areas where the families are staying are not close to each other or anything in Krabi. Grab is not reliable, so getting around town without a vehicle is hard

We thought we had a weekly cleaning, but did notThe property office wanted to charge us $30 for a fresh set of sheets each week. The house has mold and flooded electrical that shorts frequently. One of the doors to a bedroom barely opened. The property office was not responsive. We paid for weekly pool cleaning (which was required) and the pool cleaner only came once. The property tried to charge us more than double for electricity usage and changed out many people’s meters during the stay. It felt dishonest and put a sour taste in our mouths.

Despite the issues with the accommodation, we were over the moon to be living with the Sigstons again. We are great roommates. Vicki and I take turns cooking. The boys get along well. It was a blast. The bad things help you appreciate the good things and there were many good things this week.

Our family reunited for our second week in Krabi. Lucas jumped right into the Forever Wild hub. He attended a philosophy club for teens hosted by one of the dads and joined the teens in their D&D campaign. Chloe gave Henry and me much-needed haircuts. Lucas and Henry continued their Muay Thai lessons. Michael joined a gym for the month we were here in Krabi.

Vicki and I went to find the sunrise. We watched the sunrise at Din Daeng Doi, a spot I visited last October. According to locals who came for the sunrise, we picked a perfect morning. We also met several other moms at a Mexican restaurant for a book club. Book Club is more about socialization than discussing the book.

We went back to Joy Beach with several other families for an afternoon. Michael and Henry kayaked. Vicki and I swam in the ocean. There have been a lot of jellyfish, so we have not had an opportunity to get in the water. No one was stung. We went to dinner with other families, had a double date night with Vicki and Kristian and Michael went out to play pool. The kids like it when we go out because they get to order dinner from Grab and play video games or watch movies.

Sunday was Mother’s Day. I cooked potato hash, and then Michael and I went for massages. In the evening, we went to Blue Juice Guesthouse to listen to Jake, Gabe, and Jess (three teens at the hub) perform at an open mic night. They are amazing artists. We enjoy supporting them and watching them improve every time they perform. Jake even accompanied a singer on piano as she sang Hallelujah, and he had never played the song before. Incredible!
