Our third Forever Wild hub was in Kuala Lumpur. We have had a great time with Amanda, Solomon, Chloe, and the Forever Wild families. Lucas and Henry love going to the hub. We also enjoy the fun community activities after hub and on weekends.
In Kuala Lumpur, we stayed in a giant high-rise with several pools, an indoor and outdoor playground, a large gym, a reading room, a game room, karaoke rooms, and more. We are here for a while so we went to Ikea to get desks for the boys. Lucas got a rug, and Henry got a bean bag. The kids miss out on being able to decorate their room, so it is nice every once in a while to let them have some personal touches.
The building is connected to a giant mall with a trampoline park, movie theater, grocery store, dentist, restaurants, and other shopping. Kuala Lumpur is an easy button. We never have to go outside if we don’t want to, but of course, we want to.
Our first weekend was spent getting to know the new Forever Wild families. We played icebreaker games, and the kids all immediately jumped in to play with each other. Amanda and Solomon organized a welcome dinner at one of the restaurants at the bottom of the building. We ventured out to see the water show at the Petronas Towers. Henry found the last Harry Potter book for Dexter, and Dexter was thrilled. He is working to finish the book so the boys can watch the final movie together.
The first week of the hub was a hit with the kids. They start the mornings with Qigong, a practice that uses exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit. The goal is to improve and maintain health and well-being. The older kids also worked on stick work. They have been doing that since the first hub in Krabi. Now Henry likes walking around barefoot with his stick!
Lucas was a teen mentor during this hub. He worked with the kids to teach them how to throw. He put together a program for the month where he taught proper stance and grip and different types of throws. He is also working with the other kids on catching.
One of the great things about hubs is the time we spend with other parents. We have already gone hiking, had drinks out, took a trip to a comedy club to see our friend perform, and had a mom’s lunch out. We also have a lot of time to chat with other parents while our kids play on the playground and in the pool. Parents need friends too!
We sadly parted ways with our friends the Crabtrees, but we already have plans to see them again in a few months. We just met them in Krabi a couple of months ago, but it feels like we have been friends with them for years. That is how it works with worldschooling friends.
Our first week in the Kuala Lumpur hub was a success!
