We do not own a dog, but in the last year, we have had the pleasure of spending time with other people’s dogs. We think having pets is great for kids. It teaches responsibility and fosters compassion. Lucas and Henry have loved getting to spend so much time with dogs on our travels.
Last year we spent time at Emily (Judy’s sister) and Jonathan’s house after we moved out of our house. While we were there, we hung out with Josie and Dexter. We loved having them around. Josie liked to hang out with us while the boys did schoolwork. We would take the dogs on walks and lounge around on the couch together. Lucas picked up dog poop and Henry would help feed them.
We often go to visit Michael’s family in Arizona. When we stay with Michael’s sister, we get to spend time with Radar.
Last summer we house sat for our friends and got to spend a week with Blue. Blue is a sweet, old soul.
At Thanksgiving, we got to meet Kobe when we went to visit our friend Jewell. Kobe is sweet-natured and great with the boys.
Before we left Atlanta the boys went to the public library to read books to dogs. This program is great for building confidence in young readers. Lucas and Henry liked seeing the dogs each week.
In North Carolina, we got to hang out at our cousins’ house with their dogs Huey and Harley. The boys love going to Josh and Kristen’s house to see their three cousins, but the dogs are also a nice treat.
In Florida, we stayed for a week with our friends Marcos and Lily, and their fun and feisty dog Heisenberg. Heisenberg liked to cuddle and wrestle, just like Lucas and Henry.
We also stayed with our friends Doug and Michelle and their dog Sam Adams in Florida. Sam was a little skittish at first, but he warmed up to us.
We have to give an honorable mention to Emily and Jonathan’s cats Leo and Roxy.
We hope to meet many more dogs or cats on our travels
