Staying Thankful for Thanksgiving

This year, Thanksgiving will not be the Thanksgiving we had imagined, but that is true for many families this year. We planned a large Thanksgiving with family.  My brother in California was going to fly to North Carolina with his family. He was going to get to see our Stepmother who is very ill.  Cousins were going to see each other for the first time since last Thanksgiving.

With over 12 million COVID cases in the United States, we decided that it is not a good idea to travel on a plane this year. Canceling a big family gathering is the right thing to do, but it is not the easy thing to do. We do not know when we will see them in person, but we will get to see them over a video conference.

There are many people we love and miss a lot. It is hard not to be able to travel now that we have the time to do it. Michael’s family in Arizona, my mom in Atlanta, our friends all over the states. We will get the chance to see them. We are hoping it is sometime next year once a vaccine is more widespread.

For now, what we can do is stay at home for our health and for the health of others and wear a mask when we do have to go out. We think about the doctors and nurses on the front lines of this battle and the people who have to go into work right now.

Thanksgiving 2016

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. We will continue to stay thankful and focus on the positive.
