Staying in one place is hard for us since we started traveling. Hot off the heels of our beach trip, we decided to spend the week with my dad in Boone, N.C. We stayed at the timeshare that my grandparents bought decades ago. I have great memories of spending my summers in Boone. On the most recent visit, we ate delicious food, the boys golfed and we even made grandpa go hiking.
The place we stayed has hardly changed in the last 30 + years.
The timeshare we stayed at had an indoor pool and a 9-hole or three golf course. Every day the boys would go out to play and when they got to the seventh hole, Henry or Lucas would shout, “Mom! Come watch us hit the ball!” Our cabin was right next to the hole.
The property was empty. We seemed to be the only people staying there. It was great. Lucas and Henry would run up and down the hills and on the golf course. There was no one at the pool.
Grandfather Mountain is one of the most iconic things about Boone. We spent the day there taking in the views and watching wildlife. There is a lot of hiking at Grandfather Mountain. We did a little hiking, but you can also drive to the big attractions on the mountain. There is also a guided audio tour to listen to in the car while driving up the mountain.
We made the obligatory visit to the Mast General Store to buy candy and anything else we could think of. It’s a general store, it has everything. We also explored the shops at Blowing Rock.
Food was a highlight of our trip. We ate Thai food, steak, Italian Mexican. We ate well.
Michael and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary in Boone. We celebrated with a nice steak dinner and a trip for the boys to a deserted arcade. It was spent with family, and it was perfect.
