Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo : The Making of Harry Potter

Look out, London! Harry Potter has invaded Tokyo. The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo: The Making of Harry Potter opened in Tokyo in June of 2023. We are all fans of Harry Potter, so we couldn’t miss the opportunity to see how the movies were made. We purchased the audio tour, and it was worth it. It has audio and video clips that enhance the experience.

From the moment we arrived, we were transported into the Wizarding World. I got goosebumps as we entered the Great Hall and the moving marble staircase. As we continued the tour, we saw iconic props and costumes from the films, including the Nimbus 2000 and the Sorting Hat.

The first fun activity on the tour is making moving photographs. We recorded our “photo”, and then it was projected in a picture frame on the wall.

We saw the Gryffindor Common Room, the Slytherin Common Room, and Dumbledore’s Office. It is exciting to see the intricate details that brought the set to life on screen. There are so many details that go unnoticed when you watch the films. It gives you a great appreciation for the crew that worked tirelessly for over a decade to bring the story of Harry Potter to life.

We got to be fans at a quidditch match for team Gryffindor. Afterward, we watched ourselves on the big screen. We also created potions in the potions classroom.

Next, we wandered through the Forbidden Forest, where we encountered life-like creatures such as Buckbeak the Hippogriff and Aragog the Acromantula. We got to see Hagrid’s Hut too.

There are exhibits with information about the costumes, props, music, and effects. We learned that the young actors all wanted to have wounds until they realized it meant sitting in make-up for hours.

We ate lunch at the cafe and took a rest because it took us almost 4 hours to go through the first half of the tour. Henry is a big fan of butterbeer. After lunch, we saw Hagrid’s Hut, No.. 4 Privet Drive, and some of the chess pieces from the first movie.

The Hogwarts Express was in the station. You can get a photo-op pushing the luggage trolley through the wall at Platform 9 3/4 and walk on board and see train care scenes from different movies.

One of the highlights of our visit was walking through the Ministry of Magic. The size of the set is jaw-dropping. We got a video entering the Ministry of Magic through the Floo Network.

Another fun activity is flying on a broom and taking most wanted photos. It is all done in front of a green screen and then made into videos and pictures. It is not easy to act in front of the camera. We didn’t buy the pictures and videos.

At the end of the tour, we walked through Diagon Alley, but the set at the tour was not as exciting as Universal because you cannot go into the shops.

The grand finale of our journey was seeing the 1:24 scale replica of the Hogwarts castle. The Harry Potter tour is a unique and immersive way to experience the magic of Harry Potter.

Our visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour was a day filled with wonder, excitement, and nostalgia.
