We stumbled a gem during our one-week quarantine in Atlanta. We found North Cooper Lake Park, a mountain bike park about 25 minutes from my (Judy) sister’s house in Sandy Springs. The park is 51 acres. It has a community garden, a playground, green space, and mountain bike trails.
We picked the park because it was in between where we were staying and my mom’s house and we were looking for a place to hang out, but social distance.
We did not bring any bikes the first time, because we did not know it was a bike park. Once we saw the park, we knew we had to come back. We brought the bikes back and the boys dusted off their bike riding skills. We went to the park 4 times and each time we spent about 4 hours there. There were never more than a few other people there at any given time if any people at all because we went during the day when other kids were in school.
Henry tried a few hills and tumbled a couple of times. He mostly enjoyed riding around on the flat areas practicing his balance and standing while pedaling.
Lucas loves the three bike courses they have there. He was fearless in conquering them all. He fell a few times but kept getting back up. He even tried jumping like some of the other bikers we saw.
We are so glad we found this park. Spending time outside is good medicine. We love that we have the flexibility to go to the park on a weekday from 10-2 when no one else is there. We get to spend our days together trying new things and it is wonderful.
