Skiing Beaver Creek

We spent our third week of skiing in Beaver Creek.  It is hard to compare Keystone, Breckenridge, and Beaver Creek.

Keystone seems more family-oriented. It is just the ski-slopes, not tons of shops, restaurants, and bars right around the slopes We were just getting our ski legs when we were there, so we didn’t explore as much of the mountain as we could have.

Breckenridge was geared more towards the party crowd. The town has tons of shops, restaurants, and bars. It reminds us of a college town. The skiing was great. We started to get more adventurous in Breckenridge skiing blues and even some blacks.

Beaver Creek is a resort. It is the most upscale of the three places. There is housing, restaurants, and shops at the base of the mountain.  A hotel room on the mountain costs about $1,000 per night. That is not currently in our world travel budget.  Maybe after Henry and Lucas make it big with a Minecraft Youtube channel. We are staying down in Avon, just a short bus ride from the slopes. The bus stops right outside our hotel and only takes about 10 minutes to get up the mountain. We have been skiing hard and it has been knocking the boys out at the end of the day.

We were supposed to get an epic snowstorm last week. We got some snow, but not nearly as much as was first predicted. The snow we got did help the conditions.  On our first day in Beaver Creek, we got to ski in powder.  We met up with a friend of my dad’s and he took us on some fun tree runs. Lucas and Henry are hoooked on tree-runs and jumps.

At the end of the day on Friday Lucas got a lot of air on a jump and wiped out. He was ok, but the binding on his ski got loose and he couldn’t ski down the mountain. Lucas thought he was going to have to walk all the way down the mountain, but he was saved by ski patrol.

Next week is spring break for Lucas and Henry. Our routine won’t change too much. Ski, eat, sleep, repeat.
