Hilton Head Island

One grandma, a great aunt and uncle, four aunts, five uncles, and eleven cousins. An EPIC family beach week.

It gets harder as we all get older and spread out geographically to find times when we can all get together. It is not easy. We drove from Arizona. My brother Sam and his wife AC flew from California. His kids Nell and Vivian came from the Netherlands where they were visiting other cousins. My mom picked them up from the airport in Atlanta and drove to South Carolina. My brother Seth drove from North Carolina. Michael’s sister flew from Missouri, where she was on another vacation. My Uncle Kenny and Aunt Ruth drove from Connecticut.

Family matters.

We converged on Hilton Head Island. The majority of us stayed in a cute condo community called Fiddler’s Cove. It is about an 8-minute walk to Folly Field Beach. It has two pools, tennis courts, and a clubhouse with ping pong, cornhole, racquetball, and a game room for playing board games. We loved it there. Each family got a two-bedroom, two-bath condo, so we had our own space, but we were close enough that we could easily meet up.

The cousins enjoyed having the freedom to go between condo units and meet at the clubhouse. The oldest cousin is 16 and the youngest is 5, but they all got along great.

The beach at Hilton Head was crowded (compared to beaches in Nicaragua), but not overly crowded. We were able to set up on the beach each day and not feel like sardines.

Reuniting and it feels so good!
Naps on the beach are the best.
Burying Henry is important business.
What’s all that commotion in the ocean?

Hilton head has great bike paths. Many of us had bikes (rented and brought). There are several services that will drop bikes off at your rental and pick them up at the end of your vacation. We biked to mini golf and the arcade. Some of us biked to an escape room on the other side of the island.

We had a game night, karaoke night, pot luck dinners. Nell held a Rubik’s Cube class and a Taekwondo demonstration.

We had an amazing time. We do not know when we will all be together again, but we hope it is soon.
