Thanksgiving this year for us was in Atlanta. My brother Sam and his family flew in from California. Lucas and Henry were excited to spend time with their cousins Nell and Vivian. My sister Emily was the hostess with the mostess.
We had an eventful week. It started with Lucas playing in a tennis tournament in Atlanta. He won one match, but the competition was tough. During Lucas’ first match Saturday morning, a bird attacked Michael and scratched his cornea. We spent the afternoon in the emergency room and Michael spent the next three days in excruciating pain. He is doing much better now and will make a full recovery.
While Michael was out of commission, we had to deal with our first bad Airbnb experience. We took a chance on a house with no reviews and it did not work out. We paid a premium for a house inside the perimeter. When we arrived, it looked nothing like the pictures, it was dirty, our shoes stuck to the kitchen floor, the cabinet handles were sticky, the heat did not work — I could go on and on. After two days of frustration dealing with the owner and with Airbnb, we were able to get a full refund. My brother Sam was able to find another rental that turned out to be fabulous and in a great location- next to Ponce City Market.
Planning activities with 12 people is tough. We did manage to play Top Golf, walk the beltline and eat at Krog Street Market, and see an improv show at Dads Garage.
Thanksgiving Day was relaxing. Emily entrusted me with potatoes and dinner rolls, which tells you how much she trust me with food assignments. She made the turkey, stuffing, and an amazing charcuterie board.
We are soaking up all the family and friend time that we can in the next couple of weeks. We have a lot to do before we head out on our next adventure.
