Sofia, Bulgaria

We traveled to Europe because of a worldschooling meet-up in Bulgaria. We planned our travels around the two-month event with 25 other families. The meet-up officially began in mid-January. We arrived in Bulgaria at the beginning of January.

Lucas asleep on the Metro from the airport to Sofia city center.

We took a flight from Rome to Sofia. It is less than two hours. The immigration process in Bulgaria is easy. The immigration officer asked where we came from and why we were in the country, but that was it. Sometimes we get asked how long we will stay or where we are staying. Many times you have to show proof of onward travel, either to the airline when you check in for a flight or to immigration when you are entering a country.

We spent three days in Sofia. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and the largest city in Bulgaria. People have been living in Sofia (as it is known today) for at least 7000 BC.

Our Airbnb was a 4th floor walk-up with a unique bathroom. We walked around Sofia and ate yummy food. We visited St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and shopped for ski gear.

Being in Bulgaria is exciting. We spent the previous five weeks traveling fast. We traveled to five countries and spent no more than five nights in each place. That kind of travel is not sustainable for long periods. Aside from being exhausting, it is expensive. It was fun, but we are excited to put down roots for a while.
