Our Friend Butters

Last week we went to the pool for a swim. Lucas and I (Judy) discovered a frog in the pool. It looked like the frog was having trouble climbing out. We were nervous at first to get near the frog (we are city dwellers).

After much screaming, laughing and experimenting with how to get a frog out of a pool, we helped the frog out of the pool. The frog jumped back in. We spent about 40 minutes with the frog trying to “save” it.

Finally, we determined that the frog, who we named Butters, wanted to hang out with us. We swam with Butters. We let Butters hang out on our pool noodle.  We took some photos with Butters.

Then we brought Butters home with us to hang out for the afternoon.

Lucas and Henry went online to find out what type of frog Butters is. We think he is a Brilliant Forest Frog. They learned about what Butters likes to eat (bugs and worms) and its habitat (near ponds, small streams, or other slow-moving water).

Lucas and Henry built a house for Butters out of old cereal boxes. They found some worms and other treats for Butters and a plate and bowl of water in case Butters wanted to take a dip.

It was lovely spending the afternoon with Butters. Butters ended up leaving, but we told him he is welcome back anytime.
