Lucas, Henry, and Michael took a week-long boy’s trip to Williamsburg, VA. They stayed at a time-share property in a 4-bedroom place that was made up of 2, 2-bedroom units. The boys thought that they wanted to stay by themselves, but they ended up sleeping with Michael in one unit and using the second unit as a hangout during the day.
The property has tennis and pickleball courts, an indoor swimming pool, mini-golf, and a gym. The weather was good the first few days, and the boys took advantage of the tennis and pickleball courts.
It rained later in the week, so they had to get creative. They pumped iron at the gym. Lucas and Henry used their schoolbooks to make a baseball field and played indoor baseball while Michael was working. The indoor pool came in handy too with the bad weather.
They did catch a break in the rain to go to Bush Gardens. They arrived when it opened at 10 am and stayed until 9 pm. A lot of the rides at Bush Gardens are made for older kids and adults, but Lucas and Henry still road 4 of the 8 roller coasters.
There were also Halloween festivities at the park after 6 pm. It is called Howl-O-Scream. To get to any haunted houses, Lucas, Henry and Michael had to walk through the meat market where there were fog machines and people dressed up scaring everyone with chain saws. The haunted house they chose was called Dystopia. This was Lucas and Henry’s first real adult haunted house and it was too much….will wait a few more years before trying again.
Michael built some history into the trip with a visit to Jamestown, VA. The boys watched a video about the settlement. They got to see a recreation of the English settlement, a Native American Village, and boats just like the ones that sailed to America back in the 1600s. Reenactors showed how guns were fired.
On the way home, they made a stop at Ripley’s Believe it or Not!. Lucas and Henry got to stand next to the tallest man in the world, see robots made of car parts, find out what the fattest man in the world ate each day, and many other odd and interesting things. There were 4-D movies and laser mazes to complete. The Ripley’s Museum was one of Lucas and Henry’s favorite activities.
It was a fun week for the boys, but I know they missed me. I sure missed them.
