Our second week in Tejakula was just as relaxing as the first. There was a lot of pool time and game playing. It is a great place to relax. However, it does have a few drawbacks. The neighbors burn a lot of trash, which is commonplace in Bali and makes the air quality poor. We also heard loud music in the late and early hours. We learned that October is a popular wedding month, and the celebrations go late into the night.
We spent a half day learning about some of the local businesses in the area. We went to a bee farm, a salt-making operation, and learned how arak is made. Arak is made from the fermented sap of sugarcane coconut flowers, and it has an alcohol content of twenty percent to fifty percent.
We also visited the Yeh Mampeh Waterfall. We hired a guide with an arsenal of jokes that he spread throughout his tour along with a lot of information about the plants in the area.
Lucas was feeling under the weather so we got to see what a clinic in Bali looks like. Lucas was seen right away and the visit and medicine cost only $30.
We celebrated Halloween in Bali. They do not have costume stores so we had to be creative. We decided to dress up as someone else in the house. It was hilarious and everyone did a great job. The kids all got to trick or treat and we had a murder mystery party.
Henry turned 12 and it was wonderful spending his big day with friends and family he was finally old enough to complete his deep dive and finish his advanced scuba certification.
The bittersweet part of this week was saying farewell to the Sigstons. We met the Sigtons in 2022 in Bankso, Bulgaria. They became fast friends and we have been traveling with them for the last year and a half. We have had some wild and crazy adventures together. It was hard to see them go, but we will see them again in 2025.
